With industry experience as a design director at Vera Wang and Maiyet, Parsons graduate Catherine Holstein debuted her womenswear line Khaite for Fall/Winter 2015. A study in contrasts-- between masculine and feminine, severity and softness, fluidity and structure-- the label advances a refreshingly polished take on American sportswear staples. Elegantly pared-down shapes and a muted color palette highlight Holstein’s expertise in luxuriously textural fabrics. Inspired by tried-and-true vintage styles, the label’s stand-out Vanessa jean pairs a feminine high-rise with a modern straight-leg fit. Mid-length skirts and flared trousers are crafted in structural cotton twill, while long satin dresses, cotton poplin shirts, and crepe blouses are elevated by unexpected details. Mainstays such as soft cashmere knits, and sensuous jersey bodysuits round out Khaite’s collection of easy-to-wear basics.
