Issey Miyake’s signature pleating – first seen in the Japanese designer’s main line in 1989 – comes to life in Pleats Please Issey Miyake, which was initially launched as a capsule collection in 1994. The label utilises the unique technique, where materials are developed from a single thread and pleats are added after sewing the clothes into shape, to bring fluidity and modernity to its bright separates. These bold, experimental wardrobe components are also lightweight, crease-proof and easily packable, ­reflecting Miyake’s tenet that ‘design is not for philosophy, but for life’.
